Scam Alert

Press Release

SCAM ALERT: There has been an uptick in the “Grandparent Scams”. This type of con usually involves a scammer calling an elderly person pretending to be their grandchild and asking for help or money. Often, the impostor calls at night saying they are in trouble, either they’ve been in an accident or were robbed, and asks for money to help get them out of this jam. Of course, the scammer is not actually their grandchild or in trouble, they are trying to trick an elderly person into giving them money.

If you have elderly parents or grandparents, make sure they are aware of this type of scheme and talk to them about not sending money to people over the phone or through email. If you believe a relative has been a victim of this scam, please call our member contact center at 978.452.5001.
