Core Values Spotlight: October

At Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union, our five core values drive everything we do. Each month, we look to acknowledge a group of employees who go above and beyond their day-to-day responsibilities and exemplify a Heart to Serve, Communication, Accountability, Teamwork, and Growth.

Here are three examples of colleagues who truly demonstrated Heart to Serve, Communication, Teamwork, and Growth. Join us in congratulating our Core Value winners for the month of October: Monica McDermott; Evan Sousa; and Madeline Aponte, Sean Ball, Andrew Farris, and Kelly Jackson.

Senior Marketing Communications Specialist Monica McDermott was commended for her heart to serve. As Hurricane Milton was about to make landfall on the coast of Florida, Monica thought of the potential difficulties members living in the storm’s path might face in the coming days. With the help of Senior Marketing Analyst, Michele Desmarais, Monica found that Jeanne D’Arc had about 1,500 members living in Florida. She drafted an email communication letting our members know that we’re here to help with resources like Skip-A-Pay and GreenPath Financial Wellness. While the storm was, thankfully, weaker than initially anticipated, we received several responses from our members thanking us for thinking of them.

Evan Sousa, Human Resources Generalist, was recognized for his communication and growth after a recent job candidate met him at a local job fair. This candidate said that she was impressed by his professionalism from the moment she walked up to his table. He was wearing his name tag, his table display was well-organized, and he was extremely personable and approachable. When she later came in for an interview, she was further blown away by his professionalism, knowledge, and positive demeanor throughout the process.

This candidate was so impressed by him that she felt that she needed to contact his senior manager. She mentioned that, she’d seen both sides of recruitment in her own experience in both human resources and marketing in our field, and Evan stood out to her as an excellent example.

“She was so impressed that she felt compelled to tell me how much of an asset Evan is to the team and how she firmly believes in his potential to thrive and grow within the company,” said Theresa Raleigh, Jeanne D’Arc’s VP – Human Resources. It’s clear that Evan is making a significant impact, and his dedication shines through in every interaction. We’re lucky to have him!”

Madeline Aponte, Payment Operations Officer; Sean Ball, AVP – Financial Crimes; Andrew Farris, Financial Risk Management Specialist; and Kelly Jackson, Digital Channel Officer; were all recognized for their heart to serve and their teamwork. Several members were victims of a scam in the form of fake fraud alert text messages with a hidden infected link. Clicking on this link exposed their online banking credentials, and the fraudsters began attempting to send themselves the members’ money.

These fraudulent transfer attempts were made at a tricky time, but the team recognized that the transfers hadn’t been processed yet. They figured out a way to immediately implement an additional step before the transactions completed processing, giving them time to review, identify, and block these transactions and the external accounts they were intended for.

Each of them played a distinct role in solving this problem, from contacting our vendors to identifying information about the fraudsters and suspicious transactions. Their efforts to fight fraud losses and help affected members has been nothing short of amazing, and they are all to be commended for their Heart to Serve!
